A monolithic solid oxide fuel cell (10) of the type characterized by a plurality of fuel and oxidant passageways (36, 34) extending through the core (12) of the fuel cell (10). The fuel cell (10) is constructed only of anode (30), cathode (26), electrolyte (28) and interconnect (32) materials. The cell (10) is constructed using multilayer tapes (68) formed by first roll milling four individual tapes of cathode (26), electrolyte (28), anode (30), and interconnect (32) material, and then roll milling the multilayer tape (68) form the four tapes of component materials. Passageways (34, 36) are formed within the cathode (26) and anode (30) layers by roll milling elongated organic fibers (38) into the tapes and burning out the fibers during the binder removal, sintering process. A manufacturing process is also disclosed. |
