COMPOSITION FOR INHIBITING ABSORPTION OF NUCLEIC ACID BASES.

A composition for inhibiting absorption of nucleic acid bases in a living body, which contains as an active ingredient a lower thio alkanoic acid represented by the general formula: R<1>-S-R<2>-COOH (wherein R<1> represents a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, and R<2> represents a lower alkylene group optionally substituted by an amino group) or its salt. This composition is effective for prophylaxis and treatment of gout in virtue of its action of inhibiting absorption of nucleic acid bases.
