PURPOSE: To obtain a resilient cotton fiber by treating a fiber with a finish solution comprising a durable press resin and a lubricant, cross-linking and curing the resin in the interior of the fiber and maintaining the lubricant on the surface of the fiber. CONSTITUTION: In treating a scoured, bleached cotton fiber with a finish solution containing a durable press resin such as a formaldehyde-free alkylated glyoxyl/ cyclic urea condensate resin (a finish solution containing 3%-4% of the resin) and an amino functional group silicone such as a lubricant having a molecular structure larger than the molecular constitution of the resin (the finish solution containing 1.5-2.5% of the lubricant, the resin is absorbed in the interior of the fiber more readily than the lubricant, cross-linked with the fiber and cured. The lubricant is maintained in close proximity to the surface of the fiber to give a resilient cotton fiber. The fiber is useful as an absorption sheet for a diaper. |
