PURPOSE:To obtain the title flexible, continuous material by preparing a braid fibrous form by knitting organic fiber and impregnating the fibrous form with a binder followed by baking said organic fiber into carbon fiber to effect mutual firm integration. CONSTITUTION:Prior to baking raw material organic fiber 1 (e.g., acrylic fiber), strands 2 made of the fiber are knitted in e.g., a round beaten braid form into a braid fibrous form followed by impregnating the fibrous form with a binder 3 (e.g., phenolic resin) to prepare a binder-impregnated braid fibrous form 4 with the respective fibers 1 mutually bound. Thence, this form 4 is put to flame- proofing treatment followed by high-temperature baking, thus easily obtaining the objective continuous structural material with high mechanical strength and heat resistance. This material is suitable as an alternative to reinforcing steel as a reinforcing material. |
