There are disclosed halogeno-4-methylpyrazoles represented by the formula (I): <CHEM> wherein R represents an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted pyridyl group; X represents a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom; and Y represents a halogen atom, and a process for preparing the same which comprises reacting 1-substituted-4-methylpyrazoles of the formula (II): <CHEM> wherein R has the same meaning as defined above, with a halogen.
