<p>PURPOSE: To produce variable denier filaments having denier variations which are random in length in an axial direction, having longer length slubs and capable of imparting cloth having linen-like appearance and pleasant feel by drawing at ambient temperature a feeder yarn having a specific birefringence under a specific condition. CONSTITUTION: The objective filaments are prepared from a synthetic polymer having >=30 deg.C glass transition temperature, and have thick fiber parts and thin ones in an axial direction, in which the length of themselves is 1.4-30.9 inches, the average length of slubs is 9.116.2 inches and the percentage of slubs is 16.4-49.8% in terms of the axial length. The filaments are produced by the following steps: (1) feeding into a chip hopper 1 chips 2 made of poly(ethylene terephthalate) or the like; (2) feeding chips 2 from the hopper 1 into an extruder 3 and supplying an additive by an addition pump 4 so as to be mixed with chips; (3) extruding the mixture through a static mixer 7 from a spinneret 8 so as to form plural melt flows 9 and solidifying them in a quenching chamber 10 to form a feeder yarn 1 having 0.01-0.05 birefringence; (4) drawing the feeder yarn 1 at ambient temperature at 1.27-2.03 draw ratio in a draw zone having the length of 15.2-300 cm.</p> |
