NEW MATERIAL:2-Fluoro-5-halogenoisophthalonitrile. USE:It is used as an intermediate material for medicines, agrochemicals, photosensitive materials and liquid crystal materials. PREPARATION:2,4,6-Trifluoro-5-halogenoisophthalonitrile is allowed to react with a solid metal or a solid alloy, preferably in an aqueous solvent which refluxes over 80 deg.C, at 80 deg.C to the refluxing temperature, particularly under reflux, to give a novel compound, 2-fluoro-5-halogenoisophthalonitrile. The isophthalonitrile product is hydrolyzed in an acidic aqueous solution to give 2-fluoro-5-halogenoisophthalic acid. The defluorinative reduction is preferably conducted in a reaction system of a pH range less than 9, preferably from 2 to 7. The solid metal is suitably metallic zinc. |
