摘要 PURPOSE:To industrially and advantageously obtain the objective compounds by using a crystalline aluminosilicate as a catalyst for dehydrohalogenation and condensation reaction in subjecting an aromatic compound and carbon tetrachloride to the dehydrohalogenation and condensation reaction and then hydrolyzing the resultant compound to produce the subject compounds. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic compound and carbon tetrachloride are subjected to dehydrohalogenation and condensation reaction in the presence of an acid catalyst to provide benzophenone dichlorides, which are then hydrolyzed to produce benzophenones. In the process, a crystalline aluminosilicate, preferably cellular aluminosilicate having >=6Angstrom pore diameter and 4-200 molar ratio of the silica/alumina, e.g., Y type zeolite, mordenite or beta type zeolite, is used as the aforementioned condensation reaction catalyst to facilitate separation of the catalyst and enable repeated reuse thereof. Furthermore, the above- mentioned method has also advantages in that formation ratio of industrially useful 4,4'-isomers is high when a mono-substituted benzene is used as a raw material, etc.
