The mechanism delivers an item such as a rectangular tub into the precise position necessary in a machine printing the bottom (15). A first conveyor (1) delivers the tub (12) in the upright position onto a roller (5), whose axis (6) is parallel to the travel direction, while its apex line (7) is flush with the conveyor surface (8), the centre of gravity (13) of the tub being alongside the apex line. Thus the tube slides downwards round the roller periphery, being inverted in the process by a plate (9) extending concentrically round the roller and open at the bottom (10). Below the latter is a discharge conveyor.
