PURPOSE: To obtain high working accuracy in a short grinding time and save materials by slight removal of the surface of a cylinder by pressing a grinding belt with prescribed pressure on the surface by a contact roller in accordance with irregularity of abrasion on the surface of the cylinder. CONSTITUTION: A cylinder 45 having irregular surface abrasion and a surface layer formed at a high temperature on a surface 45' is heated and is made to have prescribed revolving speed. A belt grinding device 1 is placed at a start location with a slight distance from the surface 45'. Next, a rough grinding belt 21 is made to have prescribed traveling speed and the layer of the ununiform surface 45' is removed under prescribed pressure. During this period, space between a copy model 10 and a contact roller 23 is adjusted by an adjusting device 30 and the belt 21 is pressed on the surface 45' by a non-illustrated pressing device. The coupling of a feed reciprocating base 18 and the copy model 10 is adjusted by the adjusting device 30 for precision grinding, the worn grinding belt 21 is converted, the belt grinding device 1 is fed by the adjusting device 30 and the grinding is repeated till the cylinder 45 holds a prescribed shape and complete round in a shaft direction by the copy model 10. |
