PURPOSE:To allow setting of the working length of the element at the larger length while maintaining the present outside diameter of a clad layer by providing a transparent cylindrical layer which has the refractive index approximately equal to the refractive index of the clad layer at the outer side of the clad layer. CONSTITUTION:The fiber type optical wavelength converting element 10 is constituted of a core 11, the clad layer 12 on the outer side thereof, and the cylindrical layer 13 which is provided on the outer side of the clad layer 12 and has the refractive index approximately equal to the refractive index of the clad layer 12. This cylindrical layer 13 is formed of a resin, such as acryl, so as to have the prescribed thickness. The transparent cylindrical layer 13 which has the refractive index approximately equal to the refractive index of the clad layer 12 is provided at the outer side of the clad layer 12, in this way. The fiber type SHG which is fine in the core part and is thick in the clad part is easily obtd. in this way, and the setting of the working length l of the SHG at the larger length is possible. |
