METHOD FOR WASHING FILTER AND FILTER CONTAINER

PURPOSE:To make the complete removal of polymer mainly consisting of polyphenylene sulfide(PPS) possible and the generation of offensive smell due to the decomposition of PPS at washing very few and consequently prevent the environmental atmosphere from being polluted by a method wherein a filter to which the PPS polymer adheres is washed under heat in an organic solvent the cohesive energy density of which has a specified value. CONSTITUTION:The washing method concerned is to wash a filter or filter container to which polymer mainly consisting of PPS adheres is washed under heat in an organic solvent the cohesive energy density of which is 120-300cal/cc. If the cohesive energy density of the solvent falls beyond the above-mentioned range, the effects of the instant invention are remarkably reduced. The favorable organic solvent is water soluble nitrogen-containing compound having the boiling point of 190 deg.C or higher at 780mmHg. The washing temperature of the filter or filter container is preferably near the boiling point of the organic solvent used normally and more preferably is heated up in the range of 190-360 deg.C. The weight of organic solvent used is preferably 3 times more than that of the object polymer mainly consisting of PPS.
