The invention relates to an apparatus for assisting in rescue work, particularly in high-rise buildings. In order for such an apparatus to be rapidly deployable, it possesses a rail-mounted trolley with a boom mounted thereon to permit a limited degree of pivoting, which boom possesses at least one roller at its free end. The apparatus also includes a free-moving container or a frame for at least one cable winch which can be rotated therein, subject to braking, the cable of which is guided over the roller of the boom.
