A first plastic film (2) in which dichroic microcrystals are embedded and oriented for polarisation purposes is placed in front of the lamp (1). A second plastic film (3) is mounted on e.g. a visor or glasses worn by the driver (P.O.) The two polarising films (2,3) are disposed so that their planes of polarisation are inclined to each other at an acute angle pref. between 30 and 60 deg. Variant embodiments are also disclosed wherein the first polariser may be either deposited on or embedded in the headlamp glass, or alternatively both polarisers may be sited on screens (or a screen and a visor) immediately in front of the eyes of the driver. ADVANTAGE - Does not require periodic checking or adjustment of dipped-beam position.
