PURPOSE: To obtain a composition for reducing the skin irritation associated with a penetration enhancer by including a percutaneously absorbable drug, the enhancer comprising a solvent and a cell envelope disordering compound, and glycerol. CONSTITUTION: This composition for reducing the skin irritation associated with a penetration enhancer consists essentially of (A) a percutaneously absorbable drug, (B) (B1 ) a solvent selected from a 2-3C alcohol, a 3-4C diol, DMSO, DMF, DMA, 1-n-dodecylcycloazacycloheptan-2-one, N-methyl-pyrrolidone, N-(2- hydroxyethyl) pyrrolidone and a mixture thereof and (B2 ) a cell envelope disordering compound, e.g. methyl laurate, oleic acid, oleyl alcohol and glycerol mono- to trioleate, and (C) glycerol in an amount effective in lowering the stimulation. The blending amount of the component C is 0.1-70wt.%, preferably 5.0-20.0wt.%.
