PURPOSE:To extract a symbol string to be collated being positioned separately by arbitrary distance from a collating symbol string by constituting a symbol collation device of a transfer means and a cell array whose cells are connected by a setting means. CONSTITUTION:The collating symbol string is assumed as 'ABCD' and the symbol string to be collated as 'ABCD'. Only registers 130 of f11-f44 are set at 1s by supplying 1 to an initial set terminal 110. Following that, 1 is supplied to only an input terminal 120-1 corresponding to the input of A, and Os are supplied to another input terminals. After such input are performed, 1 is outputted to an output terminal 190-4, and Os to another output terminals. Similarly, by inputting input signals corresponding to the input of B, C, and D to the input terminals 120-1 to 120-4 one after another, output corresponding to the state of the cell at an N-th string can be obtained from the output terminals 190-1 to 190-4. Based on those output, a collation result between the collating symbol string 'ABCD' and the symbol strings 'A', 'AB', and 'ABC' to be collated can be obtained as the intermediate process of collation, and the collation result between the symbol string 'ABCD' to be collated as the final result.
