The compressor with a cylindrical housing (1) with a top inlet (3) and side outlet lower drum, employs a rotary piston (4) formed by extrusion and incorporating three radial, curved conveying channels (7) each forming part of a helix. Each channel terminates in an outlet opening (11b, c) adjacent to a central hollow driving core (27) incorporating a counter weight (26).The driving core is supported eccentrically by a central driving spindle projecting outwards both ends and supported by ball bearings.Fluid enters the open outer ends of the channels from the space (5) between the outside surface of the piston and inside surface of the housing and is discharged sideways around the core to pass to the side outlet.
