The grab extracts a core formed by a trepanning drill, and incorporates a mechanism with screwed rods. Two or more claws (1) are fixed to grab arms (2), which are in turn each attached by a pair of parallel links (4) to a central actuating rod (3), on which a guide (5) slides in its axial direction. This is attached by links (6) to the grab arms. Movement of the actuating rod in the lengthwise direction is by a thrust mechanism, e.g. with a screwed spindle (7) and tapped handwheel (8) supported at the guide end furthest from the grab. USE/ADVANTAGE - Safety grips cores in very limited space and borehole depth, and is useable over a wide range of diametersa.
