PURPOSE:To prevent scratches on a rotary disc and to prevent vibration and deflection of a friction material, by a method wherein spherical graphite cast iron castings are formed into fibers to form a base material of a friction material. CONSTITUTION:A material consisting of spherical graphite cast iron castings with a Brinell hardness of about 130-150 is cut by a lath to obtain cast iron fiber with a fiber diameter of about 20-80mu and a fiber length of about 2-6mm.. Cast iron fiber forms a base material, thermosetting resin used as a binder, and inorganic powder such as barium sulfate, alumina, organic powder such as cashew dust, graphite, and a metal powder such as copper, zinc, which are used as a friction adjuster, are mixed, and then, preliminary molding, pressure and heat molding and heat treatment are made to manufacture a friction material. |
