The invention relates to a drilling support for holding and handling drilling machines during overhead drilling, having a supporting rod, an advancing device arranged in the upper region of the supporting rod and connected to a clamping device for the drilling machine, and having a lever mechanism for actuating the advancing device. The object of the invention consists in improving the use characteristics of such known drilling supports. According to the invention, this object is achieved in that the axis of rotation of the lever on the supporting rod is arranged so far down that, when the drilling support is handled by a user who is standing, the lever for producing the drilling advance can be actuated by pressing from the top downwards. As a result of this ergonomically expedient lever device, the user of the drilling support experiences the least possible strain and can achieve an enhanced performance compared with conventional drilling supports.
