In pressing machines or laundry mangles of the abovementioned type, it is known to use as a finger-guard element a heat-insulated guide rod arranged fixedly on the bowl at the front edge, but the result of this is that the laundry entry slot is virtually concealed and therefore a controlled introduction of the laundry is possible only with difficulty. Furthermore, in pressing machines or laundry mangles of this type with an evaporation device, there is the risk that finger burns will be caused by hot steam flowing out towards the laundry feed side. Because a movable laundry entry edge running tangentially or virtually tangentially relative to the mangle roller is used as a finger guard, the laundry entry remains visible and freely accessible, with the result that introduction of the laundry can take place easily. The bowl is moved off immediately if the movable finger guard is raised slightly when touched, so that fingers are also prevented from being pinched. In addition, the result of the displacement of the steam distributor according to Claim 1 is that finger burns caused by hot steam flowing out are prevented.
