Length-measuring device (instrument)

The invention relates to a length-measuring device, in particular for determining the body height of persons, consisting of a guide rail, provided with a scale, and of a measuring carriage (slide) which can be displaced along the guide rail. The scale has a bar code, and there is arranged opposite it an optoelectric measuring device which is coupled to the measuring carriage and to which an evaluation unit and display are connected. The measured value is preferably detected via an incremental tape and a light barrier. The measuring method permits very precise length measurement, and can be performed in a way which is largely free from noise and wear.
