To feed molten material to the cavities provided for its reception in the casting mould, use is made of a runner system (1) which consists of prefabricated round-pipe sections (5 to 8) and prefabricated connecting elements (9 to 12) in the manner of fittings, which can be put together in modular fashion. Owing to the round cross-sectional shape of the runners which is obtained thereby and is favourable in terms of flow and owing to the quantity of foam plastic in the runner system (1), which is reduced by the cavity in the round-pipe sections (5 to 8), which foam plastic must be gasified by the molten material before it reaches the gates (3, 4) and the foam-plastic pattern mould (2), a low-resistance flow of the molten material with a low temperature loss results, so that complex and extensively branched runner systems (1) can be realised. As a result, it is also possible to cast large and complex castings homogeneously, starting from only one inlet (13), and in the case of small castings a multiplicity thereof can be cast using only a single runner system (1). Owing to the efficient prefabrication of the elements of the runner system and the simple push-in connections, the runner system (1) can be constructed in a very short time and adapted to the requirements of the molten-material conveyance in each particular case.
