Arrangement for the prevention of cavitation in a liquid displacement pump (1) having a connecting pipe (6,7) between a pressure pipe (4) and a suction pipe (3), with a valve (11) controlling the cross-sectional flow in the connecting pipe whose closing member is acted upon by a spring (12) in the closing direction. The closing member is a valve piston (17) which is acted upon by the difference between the prssure in the suction pipe and atmospheric pressure. USE/ADVANTAGE - Pump in which the occurrence of cavitation at high speeds or with high viscosity fluids is reliably prevented at low cost.
