Device for stabilizing fractures of tubular bones and of joints with an elongate stabilizing element which can be inserted in the tube of the tubular bone or in a bore and becomes established or can be removed on completion of the healing process. The stabilizing element is designed as a helical spring which is flexible within limits about its longitudinal axis. The helical spring may have a fixing device on at least one end. <IMAGE>
