PURPOSE:To obtain advantageously acetic anhydride from methyl acetate or dimethyl ether and carbon monoxide, by using a catalytic system comprising a nickel component, a bromide or iodide, and a component of a metal of IVB group,IA-IIA group and IVB group of periodic table as a cocatalyst. CONSTITUTION:Methyl acetate or dimethyl ether is reacted with carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalytic system comprising nickel or a nickel compound component, a halide of a bromide or iodide, and a cocatalyst consisting of (A) a metal or a metal compound of IVB group of periodic table, (B) a metal or a metal compound ofIA group or IIA group of periodic table, and (C) a metal or a metal compound of IV group of periodic table, to give acetic anhydride. This method can keep the above-mentioned inexpensive catalyst in high activity and stably, prolong the life of catalyst, save the energy required to separate the by-products, without using an organic nitrogen compound which is unstable and produces by-products. |
