Proteins which are composed of amino acids encoded by genetic manipulation and which have a defined N-terminus can be produced under mild enzymatic conditions by initially producing a precursor which has a N-terminal extension of at least proline, preferably of Met-Pro, after which the required protein is, where appropriate after previous elimination of the other amino acids with aminopeptidase P, liberated with proline iminopeptidase. The process is particularly suitable for products of the direct expression of bacteria, which are, where appropriate, only partially methionated. |
