NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I [R<1> and R<2> represent H or (protected) OH; R<3> and R<4> represent H respectively or are linked with each other to represent single bond; either of R<5> and R<6> represents H and the other represents protecting group to be removed in an eye] and salts thereof. EXAMPLE:9'-Pivaloyloxymethyl griseolate. USE:Useful as a remedy for glaucoma and having a superior intraocular tension decreasing action without toxicity. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula II is reacted with an esteribying reagent expressed by formulae III, IV or V (R<7> represents 1-6C alkyl or 5-7C cycloalkyl; R<8> represents H or 1-3C alkyl; R<9> represents 1-6C alkyl; R<10> represents H or 1-6C alkyl; R<11> represents phenyl, 1-6C alkyl or 5-7C cycloalkyl; X represents eliminating group such as halogen).
