PURPOSE:To make program understanding work more efficient by detecting the controlling structure and input-output instruction of a program from analyzed results of the program after analyzing the program and outputting coincident processing pattern information by collating detected information with built-in program processing patterns. CONSTITUTION:An already-existing program storing section 101, input device 102, program composition analyzing function section 103, composition analyzed result table storing section 104, program controlling structure detecting function section 105, program controlling structure storing section 106, program processing pattern estimating function section 107, and output device 108 are provided. Then a program processing pattern information which is latent in a program is obtained by analyzing the program in accordance with its program composition and detecting the program controlling structure and input-output instructions to files contained in the program from analyzed contents. The obtained program processing pattern information is collated with built-in program processing pattern information. Therefore, the processing outline of the program can be presented in the form of the name of a functionally classified program processing pattern and the efficiency of program understanding works in maintenance works can be improved.
