An apparatus for pulverising burnt lime to suspended form is constructed with a vertical container and rotary shaft fitted in the container. An agitation layer and a pulverisation layer are formed in the upper and lower part of the container respectively. The material that is introduced into the container at the top is agitated and broken up or divides up into smaller particles in the agitation layer and is pulverised to fine particles in the pulverisation layer. The fine particles are removed at the top or at the middle of the container. An outlet pipe is arranged, which runs upward from the outlet gate at the middle of the container. An agitator may be arranged in the outlet pipe. The material that is to be pulverised is prevented from passing directly from the inlet to the outlet around the outside of the pulverisation layer. <IMAGE>
