An arrangement for determining the total length of timber elements, such as boards or planks, in a timber stack 13 with timber elements of decreasing lengths and with an even end comprises an arrangement which is designed so as, in the case of a timber stack position in which the even end 14 extends essentially in a vertical plane, to determine the position of the plane which is essentially parallel to the even end and extends through the centre of gravity of the timber stack, means 8, 9 for determining the distance between said two planes, members for determining the length of essentially the longest and essentially the shortest timber elements, and a computer unit 12 for receiving information relating to said distance x, lengths and the number n, determined for example by manual counting, of timber elements in the timber stack. The computer unit is arranged so as, by using said information in a program based on an assumed distribution of timber elements of different lengths, to calculate the total length of timber elements in the timber stack. <IMAGE> |
