When a neck portion of the tube and a stem structure mounted with the electron gun are sealed to each other by heating, a distance between a standard level of the tube and that of the electron gun is measured. Comparison/arithmetic processing is effected both on the measured value and on a preiously stored standard distance to seek a difference between the two values. The tube body or the electron gun is controlled by a moving operation so that the difference falls within an allowable value.
