In a sorter for coins having a sorting head 356 overhanging a rotating elastic disc 354, the coins are sorted by the interaction of an inclined edge extending outwards, and of a series of spindles 414a-414f essentially spaced externally to this edge. The spacing between the spindles 414a-414f and the inclined edge grows towards the outside, in such a way that the coins of different diameters are pressed onto the inclined edge by different spindles, at different places. These coins are then captured between the head 356 and the elastic disc 354, then set in rotation along to exit locations which are specific for each coin around the outside of the said head. <IMAGE>
