As the glass sheets are conveyed through a furnace to a bending station, localised heating of the sheets to a temperature higher than the rest of the sheets is effected by a heating unit mounted on a driven carriage which moves parallel to and in synchronism with the movement of the conveyor. After reaching the downstream bending station, the carriage drive may be reversed to return it to the upstream position. Used for bending for vehicle side and rear windows. Localised heating to higher temperature allows greater bending of these areas without heating the remainder of the sheet.
