This cylinder comprises a primary tubular screw (10) with an external and an internal thread of opposing pitches, a secondary screw (11) cooperating with the internal thread, with one end (11a) articulated to a fixed point, a nut (9) which is stationary in terms of rotation but integral in terms of translation with the element that is to be adjusted, and cooperating with the external thread, a reduction gear (13) connected to a motor (M) for turning the primary screw (10), and means for preventing rotation of the reduction gear (13) relative to the nut (9); these means comprise a pair of yokes (18) with two branches (18a, 18b) hinged together, and one of the branches is also hinged to the reduction gear (13) while the second branch is hinged to a non-rotating part (9) of the cylinder.
