When feeding a thin sheet web 27 to a processing machine it is extremely important that this be done precisely, with a view to machining accuracy, and rapidly, with a view to productivity. The feed apparatus according to the invention is therefore constructed as an independent unit, in which the drive motor 3, by way of a toothed belt 5, drives both the bottom roller 13 directly by way of a gear 9, and the top roller 17 through a transmission, via an intermediate shaft 14 by way of a pair of gears 15, 16. As a result both the rollers 13, 17 become drive rollers, which gives maximum feed rate, and it also allows the top roller 17 to swivel in its bearing housing 18 about the intermediate shaft 14. As a result the top roller 17 is driven without any backlash, regardless of the position of the roller in relation to the bottom roller 13, the rotational movement through the intermediate shaft 14 and the centre of rotation of the bearing housing 18 lying on a common line 24. <IMAGE>
