The high-speed burner has a combustion chamber (5) having a basket-shaped flame holder (3). The flame holder comprises a casing (8) which widens conically in the flow direction and in which passage openings (4) are constructed. A fuel lance (7) opens, with radial outlet openings (11), in the region, situated upstream, of the flame holder (3). The transition between the conical casing (8) and the combustion chamber (5) is formed by a step-shaped widening. A sparking plug (14) is arranged at the level of the outlet openings (11) of the fuel lance (7) in a duct (2) for an oxygen-carrier gas in front of an ignition opening (13). <IMAGE>
