A window covering (10) is made from a long sheet of flexible material (22) that is stiffened periodically (28) by the insertion of high elastic modulus rods (30) into transverse pockets of the flexible material (22). The window covering (10) thus formed is spread over a fenestration opening and one edge or margin is secured to a fixed sill (24). A pair of toothed tracks (14, 16) having a cusp (18) and a single ribbonous flange (20) are set to the side frames (12) of the fenestration opening. A movable sill, which has a handle (38) and a tensioning bolt (29), is capable of propelling itself by track engaging gears (36) having rotational movement effected thereto by a rotating shaft (34) and further has secured to it the remaining margin of the flexible material (22). The flexible material (22) is further supported along the toothed tracks (14, 16) and guided by rod end support guides (32) which ensures regular folding (22') of the flexible material (22).
