For connecting a number of tiles to form a set of tiles, the tiles are aligned in a grid. The tiles are thereby arranged such that they have their visible side facing upwards. A pattern of spots of adhesive is applied to a horizontally disposed upper strand of an adhesive-repellent transporting belt, the arrangement of the spots of adhesive corresponding to the line of the joints. The set of tiles is placed on the transporting belt prepared in this way, the spots of adhesive penetrating at least partially into the joint space between the tiles and forming adhesive bridges. Once the adhesive has set, the joined-together set of tiles can be removed from the transporting belt and requires no further connecting means other than the adhesive for holding it together.
