PURPOSE:To obtain the title product having uniform fine foam and suitable as gauze substitute, holding material, etc., for electrolyte by mechanically foaming a mixture of PVA water solution and surfactant using an inert gas, etc. and then irradiating the mixture with ionizing radioactive rays to gel PVA. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of PVA water solution and surfactant is subjected to mechanical foaming using an inert gas (preferably nitrogen gas, helium gas or fluorocarbon gas) or air and then irradiated with ionizing radioactive rays to gel PVA and preferably the resultant gelled PVA is converted to acetal by reaction with an aldehyde and acid to provide the aimed foam. |
