In conventional doctor blade holders, doctor blades can be used purely as wearing parts which are relatively expensive and already have to be exchanged after a slight degree of abrasion of less than 5%. In order to be able to use a doctor blade with a considerably longer service life and at low cost, a doctor blade holder and a doctor blade suitable therefor are provided, the doctor blade holder having, in addition to an upper supporting doctor blade (5), a further lower supporting doctor blade (7), between which there can be mounted in the manner of a sandwich via an upper and a lower doctor blade holder (1, 3) a doctor blade (23) clamped between them. The doctor blade (23) can consist of an even, thin steel plate which can be used as a wearing part up to 40% in total.
