Rigidly attached to a column (1) fitted with a foot is a support device (2; 5-11) for a seat (3) and a backrest (4). The seat (3) is arranged directly on the support device (2). The backrest (4) is connected to the seat (2) via a torsion spring unit (13) arranged as a joint between the seat (3) and the backrest (4); in this case, the torsion spring unit (3) is directly attached to the support device (2) and a bracket (14) arranged at the bottom of the backrest. Via the bracket (14), the backrest (4) is supported on the support device (2) by a hydraulic movement damper (24) with a lock which is linked (23; 22) to the support device (2) and to the bracket (14). The movement damper (24) can be unlocked by means of a device (36, 38-42) by operating a hand lever not illustrated in Figure 1.
