The invention specifies a vehicle roof having a roof opening in a fixed roof surface, which is intended in particular for lorries or the like. This roof opening can be opened and closed by means of a panel. The panel is preloaded in the opening direction and the operating mechanism, which is connected to the panel, is accommodated in a longitudinal member which runs in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the vehicle and is connected releasably to a frame inserted into the roof opening. The frame opening here may be used in the event of an emergency without hindrance as an emergency exit hatch when the releasable connection of the longitudinal member and frame has been disengaged, since then the panel, together with the longitudinal member and the operating mechanism provided there, is ejected in a power-assisted manner in the opening direction.
