The invention relates to a bevel-gear differential which locks automatically to a limited extent and in which a viscous clutch 3 and the actual bevel-gear differential 4 are arranged in a differential cage 1. One of the side bevel gears 12 is connected fixedly to the viscous clutch 3, for example to the case 5 thereof. The side bevel gear 6 is connected to the cover 12 of the case 5 by a weld 14. The remaining components of the bevel-gear differential 4, these being the support 15 having the journals 17, the differential bevel gears 16 which are mounted rotatably thereon and the further side bevel gear 13, form by way of a retainer 21 a preassembled constructional unit which can be fitted in a simple manner via grooves 20 and the journal ends 18, which can be brought into engagement therein, for the transmission of torque. This design results in simplified assembly since just two preassembled constructional units are to be used in the differential cage 1. <IMAGE>
