PURPOSE:To control the evolution of hydrogen sulfide by providing an exhaust gas purification catalyst consisting of the base material of a heat resisting carrier, a carrier layer of the metal oxide consisting mainly of aluminum oxide deposited on the surface of this base material and a precious metal catalyst deposited on this carrier layer. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic of honeycomb structure or heat resisting metal plate is used as the base material of a heat resisting carrier, on which is deposited a porous layer consisting of aluminum oxide, a main constituent thereof, cerium oxide, nickel oxide and barium oxide in such proportions that the layer comprises, per 2mol of alumimum, 0.1-0.6mol of cerium, 0.01-1.0mol of nickel and 0.01-1.25mol of barium. The aforesaid nickel and barium are made a multiple oxide and the aforesaid cerium oxide is made present on the surface of the carrier layer of this multiplex oxide and the aluminum oxide. A precious metal catalyst consisting of at least any one of platinum, palladium and rhodium is deposited on this carrier layer to form a highly active clean-up catalyst capable of controlling reactions between nickel and alumina and the evolution of hydrogen sulfide. |
