<p>A process for the selective manufacture of 2,6-diisoalkylnaphthalene from naphthalene feed or paradialkylbenzenes from benzene feed advantageously combines an equilibration step to enhance the amount of monoalkylated feed provided to the alkylation step, and the use of a shape selective catalyst in the alkylation step, to obtain an alkylation reaction product in which the 2,6-dialkylnaphthalene isomer or paradialkylbenzene is present in greater than an equilibrium amount. Recycled process components are fed to the equilibration reactor where they are combined with fresh feed to provide monoalkyl enriched feeds to the alkylation reactor.</p> |
