In a card top bar 14 for a carding machine the card top chains 15 are detachably secured to the outer ends of the heads 14a of 14 in each case by means of a securing element (e.g. bolt 16), a recess for accommodating bolt 16 being provided in each of the head ends. In order to permit simple manufacture and rapid assembly, bolt 16 is positively locked by a locking device 17 snappingly engaging a groove of bolt 16 through a slot 14d in head 14a. The locking device may be sprung by a leaf spring or may be a bent spring having a bend fitting around the bolt or in the form of a yoke with an angular resilient projection that fits around the bolt inside a groove thereon.
