A permanent mounting assembly for a vacuum cleaner filter bag (12) includes a plastic collar (29) stitched to the porous body of the vacuum cleaner bag (12) around the inlet opening thereof. The bag (12) is mounted on the exterior surface (23) of a projection (22) on the vacuum cleaner housing (11). The exterior surface (23) of the projection (22) is provided with an annular groove (27). An interior rib (28) on the collar (29) is positioned within the groove (27) to mechanically lock the bag on the projection (22) of the housing (11). A nonelastic tie strap (42) is positioned around the rib (28) to permanently secure the rib (28) in place and to provide a permanent fluidtight connection between the collar (29) and the projection (22) on the housing (11). The collar (29) is provided with a band (39) which is folded back to conceal the stitching (48), providing an attractive, neat appearance. |
