PURPOSE:To reduce a tool changing time by detecting the arrival of a first actuator at a transfer starting point before the draw-out position of a tool during its stroke and operating a second actuator for transferring the tool. CONSTITUTION:At the time of changing tools, a first-stage hydraulic cylinder 70 is operated and, as a tool changing arm 24 is rotated to a tool holding position, grippers 96 grasp a tool 32a held by a tool preparing device 34 and a tool 32b held by a spindle 16 while keeping the cylinder 70 in an operating condition and, when this is detected, a hydraulic cylinder 46 is operated. Then, as the arrival of the cylinder 46 at a transfer starting point is detected by a detector 102, the operation of a second-stage hydraulic cylinder 72 is started and, at this time, the tool 32 is not yet completely dawn off of the spindle 16. Next, as the cylinder 72 is operated, a bracket 82 is lifted up to a third operating position E to rotate the arm 24 270 deg. clockwise. Finally, the operation of the cylinder 70 is released while keeping the operating condition of the cylinder 72. |
