PICTURE PROJECTION DEVICE

PURPOSE: To more efficiently use light useful for a matrix control display panel without complicating the structure of a device by constituting the device so that two beams are made incident on the same picture display system. CONSTITUTION: The beam (b) has two beam components whose polarization directions are mutually orthogonal. The center beam is divided into two beams and they are made incident on a polarization sensitive beam splitter 2. The beam splitter is constituted of polarizing prisms 3 and 4 and a polarization separation layer 5 is formed between the prisms. The polarization direction reflects what is called a p-polarized light component parallel to an incident face and it transmits what is called an s-polarized light component orthogonal to the incident face. The incident face is a face regulated by the incident light beam and the normal of the separation layer 5. A reflection component shown by a sub-beam b1 is made incident on the display panel 10 through a reflector 6. Thus, all the useful light beams are modulated by the same display panel and best use efficiency can be obtained on useful light.
